Grand Haven - Saturday morning at the beach

We don't have AC at the Grand Haven house.  So far, this hasn't been a problem, but this particular weekend, we found ourselves up against a HOT, HUMID forecast.  Luckily for us, there happens to be a beach nearby.

Breakfasted and at the beach by 10 a.m.  My kind of Saturday.
Update: this one is no longer afraid of the lake water.  She walked right in and was up to her belly before I suggested that wasn't entirely safe, given her inability to swim.
Owning the Big Lake
Beach play
Lounging
Buckets don't make good shoes.  She learned that one the hard way.
We cooled off nicely at the beach, but returned to a very hot house.  The humidity eventually led to topless storytime outside.

Happy birthday, Megan - Family Party

We continued celebrating Megan's birthday with family on Sunday.  It was another Frozen party, complete with snowflakes, icicles, and even snow - yes, that's right, snow.  After the winter we had, I can't begin to tell you how much I resented spending a beautiful summer evening winterizing my house, but I digress.

A big snowflake, a little "7" bling
Aforementioned snow.  As much as I hate the real stuff, working with this powder was kind of cool.  Just add water, and ta-da!, you have a winter wonderland.
Creating a snow buffet
We even had a snowman!
Little sister got involved with decorating, too
Megan spent the morning of the party making favors for all of her guests, the little sweetie
We did a [snowy] sandwich bar, commemorating Megan's crazy love of Subway
A repeat of the Build Your Own Olaf snack bar from Saturday's party, with the addition of snow
Lunchtime!
Don't be fooled by the hat, she was definitely not having fun
New rollerblades from Grandma Dee & Grandpa Don
Paint your own pet rock from Grandma & Grandpa Purdy
G&G Purdy got them each a megaphone.  Wonderful...not!
Still more presents!
Lacey cuddles up with Grandma & Grandpa Goddard
The 7 year-old blows out her candles (the second time for this cake - see Spoonlicker's post)
Playing in the snow!...indoors...in June...
It was kind of fun...
Our birthday girl
How has it been seven years already?!?

Monday the 23rd was her actual birthday.  She found she had a very special visitor on Monday morning.

Sparkle Teddy Bear would never miss a Frozen party
It was a good surprise!

We celebrated (again) with dinner out at Red Robin and a trip to Barnes & Noble afterwards to pick out a new book - specifically, a 300 page chapter book.  7 year olds don't mess around.
It was a great (if somewhat exhausting) weekend celebrating our SEVEN year old!  Time's flying but it's so fun to watch her growing up.  She's turning into a wonderful little person right before our eyes.  Now, on to year eight!

Happy birthday, Megan - Spoonlickers Party

We celebrated Megan's 7th birthday with school friends and neighbors at her "favorite place on earth", Spoonlickers.  It's one of those frozen yogurt shops where you get to customize your own frozen yogurt/toppings for a small fortune.  One of their nearby locations has a private party room that we were able to take advantage of, filling it with 12 of her favorite friends and fellow ice cream lovers.

And because Megan is a female between the ages of 4 and 12, she is currently obsessed with the movie Frozen.  What better place to have a Frozen themed party than at an ice cream shop, amiright?

Kicking off year seven with a bang
The room was decorated really cute, and by people other than me.  It's a beautiful thing.
We set out a few snacks to go with our unlimited ice cream - obviously those were all totally necessary
Who could resist a Build-Your-Own-Olaf snack bar? (complete with gluten-free donut holes for a certain party guest I happen to have a thing for)
Our friends began to arrive...
Gianna, McKenna, Norah & the Birthday Girl
Isabelle, Cambell & Lyla
...Then it was time to get some ice cream!
With the word unlimited hanging over their head, they went for broke on the toppings
Evelyn, Hannah, Lily & Hazel enjoying their ice cream
The birthday girl is pleased with her party thus far
I had no idea what amount of space we'd have when we walked in, but I knew we'd need to have a couple of games to keep them entertained (the alternative being to let them eat ice cream for two hours straight...)
Lining up for Snowball Toss
Gianna takes a turn
Norah, Gianna, Megan, Rachel, Isabelle & McKenna in all in line - snowball toss was quite a hit!
Hannah, Snoopy & Daddy helped toss the snowballs back to the participants
Cambell in action
Isabelle gets ready
Snowball toss got a little violent after a few turns - we had to redirect them to a more peaceful game
Next up was musical snowflakes (like musical chairs, only we passed around snowflake ornaments) to the tune of "Let It Go"
Then it was on to Build Your Own Olaf craft time, using donut holes, pretzels, raisins and carrots
Evenlyn made herself a fine Olaf
We fit in another round of ice cream before present time
Birthday song time - the cake was just a show piece since we were all full of ice cream and donut holes
PRESENTS!
Reading her cards to the crowd
She got a Mooshka doll from Hannah - direct marketing told her she "needed" one of these
More gifts
Ever After High dolls from McKenna
Barbie from Rachel
All in all, it was quite a good haul
Posing with best bud, McKenna
