Fun with Haley & Mikayla

We took a road trip over to visit our various cousins and aunts on Grandma Dee's side of the family.  The girls always have a great time playing with Haley (8) and Mikayla (7).

Haley quickly claimed Hannah as her own, and Hannah soaked up every minute of it

Though it was a beautiful day and they have a beautiful yard to play in, our girls elected to spend their outside time playing in the pontoon boat in the garage.
Sweet cousins
Hannah got lots of love from Mikayla too
Haley & Megan
It's silly time
Mikayla joins the silliness
All four sillies
Too much fun goes a long way.

Grand Haven - Memorial Day Weekend

We are soooooo looking forward to our first full summer at the Grand Haven house!  Memorial Day weekend brought the perfect weather to kick off the unofficial start of summer.

Brown Eyes and I headed out Thursday night to get a head start on our holiday weekend
The girls were with Grandma and Grandpa Purdy on Friday - Megan got to enjoy a little Fremont time since she had the day off of school.  I collected them in the afternoon and brought them to GH for dinner, movie night and baths.

Saturday looked to be another gorgeous (and much warmer!) day.  We rode bikes downtown to visit the library.  I bribed Megan with a pretzel from The Baker's Wife, our favorite bakery treat - perhaps ever, if she tried riding her own bike on our journey.  She reluctantly accepted the challenge, but quickly discovered how great the freedom of her own bike was.  She did AWESOME!  Hannah and I stayed right behind her (Hannah was a passenger in the bike trailer - totally content to be hauled around in her little chariot).  She stopped at every street corner, looked both ways twice, and navigated all dips and bumps in the road with gusto, definitely earning her pretzel.  We hit the library, the pretzel shop, and even hit up Michigan Rags for a pair of matching pink GH hoodies for a couple of little girls I know.  Our final destination before heading home was the candy store...just because.

Very proud of our little biker!
While I was meeting some friends from work in the afternoon, Dad and the girls had the opportunity to go boating with our neighbors from GR, the Ripples.  They went all over Spring Lake and even ventured out to Lake Michigan, spending almost THREE HOURS on the water on a beautiful day.  Lucky devils.

Getting comfortable
Hanging with Hazel, heading back in from the big lake
Meanwhile, Megan and Norah enjoyed some nautical lounging
After the boating adventure, the Ripple family came over to our GH house for pizza and s'mores.  They were our first non-grandparents visitors to the house.  The girls had so much fun showing off their rooms and toys to our favorite neighborhood friends from home.  It was a great day!

Sunday was another perfect weather day!  (Seriously, who flipped the summer switch?  We never really had spring!)  We did our traditional walk/bike to the park in the morning, and came home to play in the backyard.  By that time it was warm enough for swimsuits and a picnic lunch outside.  We have been waiting sooooo long for this weather, and are determined to soak it up while it lasts.

Setting up their station to wash the playhouse
Hard at work on the play food before tackling the house
This kid doesn't know how not to be cool
Picnic time!
We don't have a great sprinkler for the girls to run through in GH, but we do have a hose...
The hose was quite a hit
...especially if you were the one being sprayed
What a perfect weekend in GH!  We are looking forward to many, many more!

Nature Walk

I thought we were enjoying a nice weekend at home in GR, but apparently the little one had grown bored.  She suddenly appeared at my side in the kitchen, asking me for a pair of scissors because "my head doesn't fit under the couch."  I determined quickly that no good was going to come from this, and immediately declared it was time to go outside.  We headed to the nearby Provin Trails for a nature walk on a beautiful spring day.

With her head (and the couch) still intact, Hannah was in charge of walking Lacey
We took along some bubbles for added fun
Hiking
The highlight for them was running the random sand dune in the middle of the trails (note that this was probably the low point for poor Lacey)
Conquering the dune
On a whim, we picked up a couple of the gigantic pine cones we saw on the trails for an at-home painting project

The completed projects - Hannah's is on the left, Megan's is on the right

School Carnival

Megan's elementary school puts on the greatest carnival each spring.  We had a great Friday night playing games with friends and collecting some pretty impressive prizes.

Megan and her best buddy, McKenna
Lyla (McKenna's little sister) and Hannah
The little daredevil tackles the big slide
We got our hair painted.
Hannah's new 'do
...and our face painted too.
Pig races!
Ending a great night with Spoonlickers.  Is there any other way?

Sick Day

Megan, who is NEVER sick, woke up on a rare beautiful morning with a raging fever and her first every complaint of a sore throat.  We kept her home from school on Thursday, but she was no better on Friday, and couldn't shake the fever.  The poor dear had almost non-stop chills.  :(

We got in to the see the doctor Friday morning, and within seconds of looking at her gigantic tonsils we had a confirmed strep throat diagnosis.  We got her first two doses of antibiotics in her on Friday, and by Saturday she was doing much, much better.

We'll see where this goes, but I'm going on record with a prediction that Megan will be without tonsils by the end of the year.

It takes a special kind of nerd to spend a sick day doing phonics workbooks.

This NEVER happens.  That fever wiped her out.

We rebounded Saturday with a trip to the library...
,,,and a picnic...
...and a bike ride!
